The United Kennel Club is one of two registries in the United States for Portuguese pointers. The breed is eligible to compete in UKC-sanctioned conformation shows as well as other companion and performance events. Click above to see the UKC conformation standard which is used when judging Portuguese pointers in UKC dog shows.
The Fédération Cynologique Internationale is the dog breed registry for 83 countries around the world. While the United States is not part of the FCI, it does include Portugal. The breed's parent club there, the Associação do Perdigueiro Português, creates the conformation standard used in judging Portuguese pointers in FCI shows around the world. The FCI standard is far more detailed than the UKC standard and as such is a more accurate and valuable source for information on the breed's conformation ideal. Click above to see the FCI conformation (morphology) standard for judging Portuguese pointers in FCI-sanctioned dog shows.
The Associação do Perdigueiro Português has also created a working standard for the Portuguese pointer. This describes ideally how the breed should perform when hunting. A link to the Portuguese version of this standard can be found by clicking above. We will be putting our translated version of the working standard here on our website soon.
